KIEV, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Eight miners were confirmed dead, six were injured and at least 20 others remain trapped after an explosion ripped through a coal mine in western Ukraine, authorities said Thursday.
The blast occurred shortly after mid-day local time at Stepova mine in Lviv region, when 34 miners were working underground, the State Service for Emergencies said.
The rescue operation is underway.
