JAKARTA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday asked authorities put all preparation for the Asian Games 2018 in the country into their final forms.
"I want to ensure that all preparation has been well conducted," President Widodo told a cabinet meeting at the State Palace.
President Widodo said that supervision on the detail of the preparation must be carried out periodically.
The president revealed about 33,000 athletes from Asian countries and regions will take part in the regional sport event.
He said that the momentum of the big sport event must be used to build a good image of the country.
"This is a momentum to show our capability in hosting a world-class event," said Widodo.
The Asian Games 2018 will be held in Indonesia's capital and Palembang city of South Sumatra province from August 18 to September 2.
The country was awarded to host the Games in September 2014, after the withdrawal of origin host Vietnam for economic reason.
Indonesia has set a target of the 8th to the 10th rank in the Games with 15 gold medals.
