BUCHAREST, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) announced Wednesday that two German nationals were declared personae non gratae for ten years for carrying out activities that may threaten national security.
The two, one of whom is of Syrian extraction, were quickly radicalized to adhere to the ideology of Daesh, while displaying a tendency toward violence, the SRI said in a press statement.
The two "conducted religious propaganda and indoctrination activities in other to covert some of their coreligionists to the Jihadi ideology," the SRI said, adding that the two even considered travelling to Syria to join the Daesh Caliphate.
According to the SRI, the two came to the attention of intelligence service in 2016.
The two are couples and they were living in northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca, where they were studying at the local Faculty of Medicine. The man is a German national of Syrian origin, while the woman is a German national, reported official Agerpres news agency, citing "officials close to the investigation."
The Romanian authorities have expelled over ten foreigners in batches since 2015, for allegedly supporting the Islamic State or al Qaeda and carrying out "Islamic extremist propaganda" in the eastern European country.
