PARIS, March 1 (Xinhua) -- French President Francois Hollande called for high mobilization to foil any cyber attacks that could influence the vote, his office said in a statement on Wednesday.

During a meeting with ministers and military chiefs at the Elysee Palace, Hollande discussed "additional protective measures (to secure) computer systems involved in electoral operations", the statement said.

As the two-round election comes closer, Hollande asked for "the mobilization of the state's necessary means" to prevent "malicious action" that could interfere in the country's election.

In addition, the government will implement "the needed measures to ensure security in public gatherings related to the campaign and the ballot", the statement added.

Last month, presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron had been the target of thousands of cyber attacks conducted by Russian hackers who were operating in Ukraine, according to Macron party's chief.

France's 2017 two-round presidential election is scheduled for April 23 and May 7.
