Food poisoning deaths up in Vietnam in Jan-Feb

HO CHI MINH CITY, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam witnessed 13 food poisoning cases between January and February, sickening 385 people and killing 11 others, its Preventive Health Department said Wednesday.

A methanol poisoning case on Feb. 10 in the northern province of Lai Chau affected 40 local people, including seven fatalities.

Vietnam saw 11 food poisoning cases which affected 784 people, including one death in the first two months of last year.

Vietnam detected 13 Zika patients, 9,900 dengue fever cases, over 4,500 foot-and-mouth disease patients, and 44 viral encephalitis sufferers in the first two months of this year.

Vietnam currently has 215,600 HIV carriers, of whom 88,300 have become AIDS patients, the department said. To date, some 90,100 people in the country have died of AIDS-related diseases.
