TOKYO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday as a strong lead from Wall Street overnight bolstered investor sentiment, with the yen's decline against the U.S. dollar supporting exporter-linked issues and lifting the broader market.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 146.20 points, or 0.77 percent, from Monday to 19,253.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.98 points, or 0.85 percent, to 1,546.98.

Notable issues that advanced in early trade comprised oil and coal product, iron and steel, and machinery-linked shares.
