SYDNEY, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A man in the Australian city of Newcastle has become an instant millionaire, it was reported on Tuesday, after finding a winning lotto ticket while cleaning his car.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, had purchased the ticket at the start of 2016, but only discovered that he had won when he went online and checked after finding the ticket at the bottom of a shopping bag in his car.
"I line the bottom of my reusable shopping bags with old beer cartons to give them strength," he said.
"The ticket was hidden underneath it, and I didn't know it was there."
The owner of the newsagency where the ticket was purchased, Cheryl Tuckerman, said she was happy the search for the one million Australian dollar (767, 500 U.S. dollars) winner was finally complete.
The Newcastle man says he plans to spend the winnings helping his children with their mortgage, and to pay for his grandchildren's education expenses.
