SOFIA, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdjikov on Friday said that his government would work to reduce the administrative burden in an effort to improve the business climate in the country.

Fiscal burden on companies has been increased more and more in many areas, Gerdjikov said while addressing a business conference.

In particular, over the last three years, administrative fees in Bulgaria increased by about 40 percent, said Gerdjikov whose government was appointed at the end of January.

"In fact, in Bulgaria fees already play the role of hidden taxes because fees should be cost-justified, but in many cases this is not so," said Gerdjikov, who is a professor of civil and commercial law.

For example, the Registry Agency last year had a budget of 8.8 million U.S. dollars, but collected 31 million dollars from fees, which were not justified in terms of the expenses necessary for the services provided, Gerdjikov said.
