WINDHOEK, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Namibia seeks to expand its relations with Iran in areas such as agriculture, health, education, energy and the fishing industry, according to a government official.
Erastus Utoni, deputy minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, said this on Thursday evening on occasion of the 38th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran event held in Windhoek.
"Namibia and Iran have long-standing and warm bilateral relations dating back to the years of the liberation struggle for freedom and independence of the country," he said.
Utoni said that as Namibia's President Hage Geingob declared 2017 a year of rededication, his ministry is dedicated to continuing strengthening bilateral cooperation with other countries and international organizations for the mutual benefit of Namibians.
Vahid Karimi, ambassador of Iran to Namibia, said at the event that his country is open for wide range of cooperation and is even ready to bring in other countries for joint projects and cooperation.
Iran was one of the steadfast supporters of the Namibian people's quest for independence and self-determination and it was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relationship with Namibia and open an embassy in Windhoek.
