Myanmar state chief minister's resignation approved

YANGON, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President's Office on Thursday approved the resignation of Chief Minister of Mon state U Min Min Oo , who formally submitted the request to resign out of his own volition on Monday.

U Min Min Oo also resigned from other post of State Minister of Development and Construction.

U Min Min Oo had hinted his resignation intention firstly on his facebook last Saturday.

He is the first government official to resign from his post under the new National League for Democracy (NLD)-led government which took office last April.

U Min Min Oo won as a representative to the Mon State Parliament from Bilin constituency-2 in 2015 general election and was elected as deputy speaker of the Mon State Parliament. He was later appointed as chief minister of the State.

He was one of the NLD members against whom complaints were lodged last year by state lawmakers regarding reported misconduct, along with his state parliament speakers.

U Min Min Oo, aged 47, holds a degree of electronic engineering and was once engaged in agriculture and food industry.

Appointment of a new Mon state chief minister in place of U Min Min Oo is expected soon.
