BERLIN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Policemen were quickly deployed to a school after a false attack alarm sounded in Germany's southwestern town of Menden on Wednesday.

German local television reported that a large number of police officers were sent to the Hoenne vocational school where a gunman was spotted.

Local witnesses said the police rushed to the scene and locked down the school. Some helicopters were also dispatched to monitor the scene.

Some of the students were evacuated and escorted out of the school by policemen.

After a first-round inspection, the police said it was a false alarm and "currently no evidence shows that a perpetrator is moving around."

The authorities for the Arnsberg district later confirmed the alarm triggered was false and expressed gratitude to "all of the emergency responders who reacted so quickly."
