MOGADISHU, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Somali authorities have enhanced security in and around Mogadishu ahead of Wednesday's inauguration of President-elect Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed.
Minister of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Abdi Hayer told reporters Tuesday that the government has finalized plans to ensure that the key ceremony goes on peacefully.
"The capital will host high level delegations attending the inauguration of the new president, we are prepared to hold this great event in terms of security and organizing it well, let Somalis show patience for the closure of the roads on Tuesday and Wednesday," Hayer said.
Heavy security presence could be seen on the main roads in Mogadishu and other key installations.
Hundreds of Somali government soldiers, officers, and other security personnel have been deployed to patrol the main streets, and enforce the 24-hour curfew imposed on the capital.
The authorities have also announced that all flights to and from Aden International Airport would remain suspended on Wednesday.
Mohamed was elected on Feb. 8 as the 9th President of Somalia. Enditem
