MEXICO CITY, Feb. 21 (Xinhua)-- Mexico's parliament leader said Tuesday that the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean should unite against Trump's "xenophobia."
"Our call is to present a common front against this current situation," said Javier Bolanos, chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, during a dialogue with ambassadors from regional countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
He called on the diplomats to voice their "clear and resounding rejection of all the xenophobic expressions from the president of the United States, Donald Trump."
The legislator said that Mexican deputies and senators would condemn any discrimination against migrants in the United States, especially when Trump is cracking down on them.
"We condemn the actions that have been taken, which weaken the human rights of the migrants who live in that country," he added.
He said that during the Mexico-Cuba interparliamentary meeting held last weekend, participants decided to hold an interparliamentary meeting with all Latin American and Caribbean countries, in order to craft responses to the U.S. stance on migration.
Participants of Tuesday's dialogue agreed that the current situation in the United States poses a threat to migrants, urging stronger regional integration to protect them.
