Caen take crucial points against Nancy in rearranged Ligue 1 match

Source: Xinhua   2017-02-22 04:19:56

PARIS, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Ronny Rodelin's goal earned Caen a 1-0 home victory over 10-man Nancy and crucial points in their attempt to avoid relegation zone in a rearranged Ligue 1 match on Tuesday.

The two sides came into this game, postponed one month ago due to a frozen pitch, with three goalless defeats in a row and sitting around the relegation zone.

Rodelin shone for Caen in the 24th minute, as he collected a throw-in, skipped through two defenders and put the ball into the goal between Nancy goalkeeper Sergey Chernik's legs.

Nancy's attempt to level the game suffered a huge blow when Faitout Maouassa was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the game with 12 minutes remaining.

The victory moved Caen up to the 15th place, while Nancy, who suffered the seventh loss in their last eight games in all competitions, sat on the 18th, the relegation play-off place.
