RAMALLAH, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi slammed Tuesday Israeli court ruling to sentence Israeli soldier who shot dead a Palestinian from close range only 18 months.
Ashrawi told Xinhua that the ruling shows the "impunity Israel is practicing as a state and enjoyed by its citizens and especially settlers and Israeli forces."
She added that Abdel Fattah Al-Sharif, from Hebron in the south of the West Bank "was murdered with cold blood while he was lying helpless on the ground unable to move or pose any threat."
Ashram described the court ruling as "the highest form of racism" and that the Israeli occupation undermines the lives of Palestinians and it's judicial system has been distorted.
Israeli public radio reported early on Tuesday that a military court in Tel Aviv sentenced the soldier Sgt. Elor Azaria to 18 months in prison, 12 months of probation and demotion to the rank Private after being convicted guilty for manslaughter.
Azaria had fatally shot Al-Sharif at a close range in Hebron in March 2016.
