TOKYO, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains on Tuesday morning as a weaker yen versus the U.S. dollar gave exporter-linked issues a boost, which underpinned the broader market.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 88.55 points, or 0.46 percent, from Monday to 19,339.63.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.34 points, or 0.35 percent, to 1,552.35.
Notable gainers by the morning break comprised pulp and paper, machinery and retail-linked stocks.
