CANBERRA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- More than 70 percent of Australians believe the federal government is not doing enough to promote and encourage clean energy, the results of a poll published on Tuesday shows.
According to the results of a Guardian Essential poll 71 percent of Australian voters believe the government could do more to promote safe, reliable and affordable renewable power, while just 12 percent are happy with the government's current efforts.
The government has also said it was committed to ensuring 23 percent of Australia's power was sources from clean origins by 2020, however more voters were in support of the Labor opposition's policy of Australia sourcing 50 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2030.
The survey comes after the federal government announced it was mulling changes to the nation's "green energy bank", the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).
According to Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg, the government wants to allow the CEFC to fund "clean coal", which would involve burying carbon emissions deep underground before they escape into the atmosphere.
However according to the voters, just 31 percent support the idea of clean coal power stations, while 45 percent described it as a poor idea.
Overall, according to the Essential poll, 60 percent of Australians believe climate change is human-induced while a quarter of those surveyed said the climate was naturally fluctuating.
