QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nine Taliban fighters including a shadowy district governor laid down arms and gave up fighting in the western Badghis province on Monday, provincial governor Mohammad Anwar Ishaqzai said.
"A nine-member Taliban group under Najibullah gave up fighting and joined the peace process here on Monday," Ishaqzai told Xinhua.
The former militants commander Najibullah who had served as Taliban shadow governor for Abkamari district and fought over the past four years have also handed their weapons to local authorities, the official asserted.
Taliban militants haven't commented on the subject.
