BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday after investors retreated from previous rally.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.85 percent to 3,202.08 points. The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.55 percent lower at 10,197.92 points.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.78 percent to close at 1,882.87 points.
Combined turnover increased to about 499.3 billion yuan (about 74.5 billion U.S. dollars) on Friday from 452 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Chinese stocks had rallied for five consecutive days before investors began to take profit on Thursday.
Securities brokers led Friday's fall, while defense industry companies rose on rising orders.
Guotai Junan Securities closed at 19.26 yuan, down 0.67 percent. Citic Securities Co. fell 0.3 percent to 16.67 yuan.
SANY Heavy Industry lost 0.14 percent to 7.29 yuan. China Shipping Industry Corp. increased 0.55 percent to 29.96 yuan.
