SOFIA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- The average income and expenditure per household member in Bulgaria in the fourth quarter of 2016 rose by 5.0 percent and 4.1 percent respectively year-on-year, official data showed on Thursday.
The total income average per household member during the period was 1,325 BGN (715 U.S. dollars), the country's National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.
As many as 53.9 percent of the income came from wages and salaries, followed by pensions (28.0 percent), self-employment (5.9 percent) and social benefits (3.7 percent), the data showed.
Meanwhile, the total expenditure average per household member during the fourth quarter of 2016 stood at 1,209 BGN (657 U.S. dollars), the NSI said.
Expenditure on food had the greatest share in forming the total expenditure (31.1 percent), followed by expenditure on housing (18.2 percent), taxes and social insurance contributions (12.0 percent) and transport and communication (10.7 percent).
