Saudi dismantles 4 terror cells, arrests 18 suspects

RIYADH, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Interior Ministry dismantled four Islamic State (IS) militant group terrorist cells, and arrested 18 suspects, reported Saudi Press Agency on Thursday.

The cells were located in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh and Al-Qassim and consisted of 18 members with 15 Saudis, two Yemenis and a Sudanese.

An Interior Ministry spokesperson highlighted in a statement to the news agency that the cells were discovered during security operations on Saturday.

He further highlighted that the terrorists carried out various crimes, including sheltering fugitives, locating targets and sending information regarding them to IS as well as recruiting new members.

In addition, the newly discovered cells are connected to other groups and individuals who were either killed or arrested during recent raids.

Police forces confiscated weapons, dangerous materials and money.

Saudi Arabia has waged a war on terrorism for years now, particularly the IS militant group.
