JAKARTA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Battle to get the gubernatorial post in Indonesian capital appeared to be fierce after none of candidates appeared to win a majority, according to outcomes of quick counts carried out by polling agencies Jakarta election on Wednesday.
The outcomes showed the incumbent candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama had secured the favoring average votes up to 43 percent.
"We lead at number one now, we don't know whether it would come up 50 plus 1 or not. Our struggle is not finished yet," Basuki said when responding to the results of quick count in a meeting with his supporters in his camp.
The votes close to Basuki'record was obtained by former minister Anies Baswedan with 40 percent from overall votes.
The other candidate, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, only obtained 16.78 percent.
"It's a great possibility that there would be a second round election. It must be cleared that any of them get over 50 percent votes," Mohammad Qodari, an analyst of Indo Barometer polling agency said in a TV interview.
A candidate needs to get more than 50 percent of the votes in the first round to win outright.
The earliest a second round will be held in April.
Governor election in the capital city was part of 101 simultaneous elections held across the country on Wednesday, aimed at selecting eligible candidates to assume provincial, regency and municipality top posts in the next five years.
