World Wide Fund for Nature to support Myanmar in waste disposal system

YANGON, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has reached a memorandum of understanding with Myanmar to provide technical support in the country's industrial waste disposal system, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.

Signed with the Myanmar Food Processors and Exporters Association on Tuesday, the WWF will begin giving training on its technology starting March in Yangon's Shwepyithar Industrial Zone, the association's Vice Chairman U Sein Thaung Oo was quoted as saying.

Myanmar Country Director. A Christy Williams stated that WWF will also provide support in harnessing raw power from waste disposal, proper harnessing of natural water and saved consumption of raw energy.

He called on business owners to adhere to the laws on waste disposal already promulgated.

Parliamentarians also urged inspection on the factories' waster disposal management by experts, MPs and members of civil society.

Meanwhile, the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) is also making efforts to apply a waste collection system for Yangon through a public-private partnership which will utilize the latest collection technology to create a cleaner and healthier environment for the commercial city.
