ACCRA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian economist Professor Ernest Aryeetey Tuesday urged the government to attract Chinese investment into agriculture and manufacturing sectors to boost economy and employment.
The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, identified agriculture as the main area that could be improved upon within the short and medium term, while encouraging growth of the manufacturing sector in the long term.
"Manufacturing is key to the expansion of every economy in processing not only agricultural products but many other items that are currently being imported," he told the Graphic Business/Stanbic Breakfast Meeting in Accra.
Aryeetey said in view of the capital and technology-intensive nature of the manufacturing sector, the government must liaise with other nationals such as Chinese and Indians who were ready to establish such industries.
"There are Chinese and Indian investors looking for places to do manufacturing. You've got to give them the right incentive, you've got to give them skill sets, you've got to give them the right infrastructure and they will do it." he said.
