JAKARTA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government on Tuesday sent 5,000 tons of rice in humanitarian assistance to Sri Langka which has been hit by drought.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo witnessed the delivery of the aids in a rice ware house in the country's capital.

"As a friendly-nation and one of the biggest countries in Asia, naturally, we stand together with Sri Langka in facing this difficulty," President Widodo said.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi noted that Indonesia and Sri Langka have historical ties as the two nations jointly took part in establishment of non-aligned movement and the Asia-Africa movement.

Minister Retno said the humanitarian aid is part of the country's diplomacy to contribute to world peace and prosperity.

"This humanitarian diplomacy will persist as Indonesia has strong commitment on that," she added.

In December, Indonesia delivered humanitarian assistance to Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State of Myanmar.
