Albania to spend 1.27 mln USD to standardize tourism sector

TIRANA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian ministry of economic development and tourism has approved a two-year strategy for the sector of tourism under which the Albanian government will spend around 1.27 million U.S. dollars in standardizing the tourism sector, official sources confirmed Monday.

The budget allocated for this reform is around 486,000 dollars for 2017 and around 835,000 dollars for the next two years.

The strategy foresees improvements of services and products, increase of demand, competitiveness and quality. Plans for 2017 include the licensing process for tour agencies, the classification of accommodation facilities and the certification of tour guides.

Plans also include establishing the tourism inspectorate, which is going to oversee the standardization process.
