DHAKA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh Monday launched voice-mail service for the country's hundreds of millions of mobile users.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who spearheads the "Digital Bangladesh" campaign as an advisor to his mother, inaugurated the service by sending a voice message using the country's second largest operator Robi's network from Gono Bhaban, the official residence of the prime minister, to the country's telecom regulatory authority Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood on Monday morning.
During the inauguration ceremony, Tarana Halim, Bangladeshi state minister for posts and telecommunication, also sent a voice mail in which she expressed the hope that the newly-introduced service would be helpful for the country's millions of mobile subscribers.
Officials said Bangladeshi three mobile operators - Robi, Banglalink and Teletalk - will initially provide this service.
Two other operators including top Grameenphone will also launch the service shortly.
Voice-mail is a service that lets callers leave a voice message for mobile call receivers if they are not available to answer their mobile phones.
Statistics of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) showed Monday that the number of subscribers of the mobile operators at the end of October last year stood at nearly 121 million.
