VALENCIENNES, France, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Huawei, Chinese telecoms giant, and the French city of Valenciennes have signed an agreement to renovate the city's video surveillance system for public security.

It could help Valenciennes, the city of 400,000 people about 200 km to the north of Paris, in Hauts-de-France region, to better manage public security issues and speed up its digital transformation.

The cooperation on video surveillance equipment and technology was a result of Valenciennes's ambition to become a technological showcase of the region, and Huawei's willingness to provide its technological expertise to support the city's digital transformation towards a "smart city."

The installation of the whole system would take about one year. The projet aims to equip the French city with 217 Huawei's HD Network cameras of the latest generation and a fully renewed monitoring center.

At the signing ceremony on Thursday, Xavier Bertrand, president of the regional council of Hauts-de-France, stressed the importance for Valenciennes and the Hauts-de-France region to develop the partnership with Huawei, which can "help them to get a head start" and lift them up in the digital transformation.

"Present in the Hauts-de-France region for more than four years with Digital IN-Pulse program aiming to help start-ups in the region and others, Huawei is committed to support the region of Hauts-de-France in its efforts to become a Smart Region, "said Song Kai, general director of Huawei France.

According to the Chinese company, the efficiency of its "Safe City" video surveillance solution has already been proved in more than 100 cities and regions in the world, such as London and Amsterdam.
