TEHRAN, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran's deputy foreign minister left Tehran for Moscow on Wednesday for talks on a series of bilateral and international issues, Tasnim news agency reported.

In his one-day stay in Moscow, which takes place at the invitation of the Russian side, Abbas Araqchi will meet Russia's deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, and the two sides will discuss regional and international issues, including disarmament, nuclear cooperation, and implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal.

Iran is one of Russia's major supporters on Middle East issues. The two countries, together with Turkey, are jointly mediating a political settlement of the Syrian civil war.

On Monday, Moscow regretted the imposition of new sanctions by the United States on Iran after the latter's missile test.

The U.S. on Friday announced sanctions on multiple entities and individuals involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and providing support to a military force in Iran.
