PRAGUE, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) announced on Thursday a smog situation in Prague and the central Bohemia region.
Similar problem remained in other areas of the Czech Republic, the worst situation is in the Pardubice, Hradec Kralove and Zlin regions.
It has been the second smog alert in 2017 and the worst one in recent years for the country.
Citizens and tourists, especially with respiratory and heart disease, seniors and children, are advised to stay in. Outside physical activities should be avoided too.
According to CHMI experts, vehicles are a major source of air pollution in Prague. If the situation does not improve in the next 48 hours, the authorities will have to take certain measures, such as offer free public transport in Prague and certain regions during the period of smog pollution.
Prague City Hall urged the drivers on Thursday not to use their cars and switch to public transport. The plants located within the city have been already called on to limit their production to normalize the situation.
CHMI will continue to monitor the smog situation in the capital and other regions in the country.
