HO CHI MINH CITY, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 703.18 points on Thursday, up 5.9 points, or 0.85 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session on Jan. 25. (transactions stopped as the country's seven-day Lunar New Year holiday)
About 86.423 million shares worth 2.066 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (93.09 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 158 stocks went up, 90 stocks fell down, while 42 stocks remained unchanged.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 652.98 points, up 8.19 points, or 1.27 percent.
A total of 37.214 million shares worth 1.110 trillion VND (50.04 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.
