JAKARTA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The annual Indonesia Fashion Week opens Wednesday in Indonesia's capital, showcasing the stylish and latest couture crafted by domestic and foreign designers.

Twenty-five fashion shows, displaying haute couture designed by 200 fashion designers from Indonesia, Lebanon, Myanmar, India, Australia, Italy, South Korea and Malaysia, will be presented in the 5-day event, themed "Celebrations of Culture".

The event held in Jakarta's landmark convention center of JCC would also be featured by seminars and talk shows, presenting fashion experts and related figures in fashion industry.

Indonesian seasoned designer Poppy Dharsono, co-organizer of Indonesia Fashion Week, said that the event was aimed at promoting cultural heritages through fashion.

"Indonesian fashion should be seen as a statement of wisdom and concern for social, culture and environmental issues," she said.

Some 150,000 visitors and 120 billion rupiah (about 9 million U.S. Dollars) of transactions were expected to take place in the sixth version of the event. The expected transaction figure is 20 percent higher than that of last year.
