BANGKOK, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will launch the online train ticket reservation service on its official website, www.railway.co.th and www.thairailwayticket.com from Feb.1, governor Wuthichart Kalyanamitr said on Monday.
Reservations can be made from two hours to 60 days in advance and each one could book four seats per time.
Travelers can pay train fares by Visa, MasterCard or JCB credit cards and debit card of Bangkok Bank, but are subject to commission from 20 to 40 baht (0.6-1 U.S. dollars).
Travelers can also cancel booked trip on the website but have to pay commission to get their money back to their cards.
Paid tickets have to be printed out before one can board the train, said Wuthichart, adding that tickets shown on smartphone screens will not be accepted.
The new service will only cover adult tickets and half-price child tickets.
SRT carries about 80,000 passengers daily on weekdays and 90,000 a day on weekends, according to SRT deputy governor Thanongsak Pongprasert, while Wuthichart expected about over half the SRT's passengers would use the new electronic ticket reservation service.
