WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) committed themselves on Sunday to further strengthening cooperation on fighting radical Islamic terrorism, the White House said.
U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE and they reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two countries, the White House said in a statement.
They also discussed recent developments in the Middle East, including the fight against the Islamic State (IS) group and joint efforts to address the conflict in Yemen and elsewhere in the region.
During the talk, Trump raised the idea of supporting safe zones for the refugees displaced by the conflict in the region, and the Crown Prince agreed to support this initiative, according to the statement.
In addition, the two leaders underscored their commitment to close consultations on issues of mutual concern.
