NEW DELHI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Six low intensity blasts were triggered by militants Thursday in India's northeastern state of Assam, officials said.
However, no casualty or major damage was reported in these blasts that went off in upper part of the state.
The blasts took place in Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Charaideo and Sadiya-Tinsukia districts. Police officials said they have also recovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from Tinsukia district.
The bomb blasts coincided with India's Republic Day celebrations across the state.
"There was no casualty due to the blasts and militants failed in their attempt to affect spirit of Republic Day celebrations," Assam Police Chief Mukesh Sahay told media.
On Sunday, two paramilitary troopers belonging to Assam Rifles and two militants were killed in separate attacks near village Jagun in Tinsukia district.
An armed insurgency in going on in India's northeastern states. Dozens of insurgent groups are challenging New Delhi's rule in the region and have waged a guerrilla war.
While some armed groups fighting Indian troops demand a separate homeland, the others seek regional autonomy.
Meanwhile, the Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit hoisted Indian national flag at Khanapara in Guwahati city to mark India's Republic Day celebrations in the state.
The Republic Day in India marks the date when India's new republican constitution came into force on 1950. Every year the day is celebrated by India on January 26. The main function was held in Indian capital, New Delhi, where India's cultural diversity was displayed along with military might.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations.
