TIRANA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian government's reforms had continued to yield results in fighting corruption in the country, a senior official told reporters on Wednesday.
Albania ranks 83rd out of 176 countries in Transparency International's (TI) 2016 report on corruption perceptions index, up five positions from a year ago.
"Fighting corruption is a long struggle and a strategic priority for the Albanian government. We are very aware that we still have much to do," said Bledi Cuci, National Coordinator for Anti-corruption in Albania.
But very encouraging results by the Transparency International showed that the Albanian government's commitment to fight corruption and the approach is working, he said.
Albanians' confidence in state institutions was increasing, said Cuci, who is also minister of state for local affairs.
In a scoring system starting from 0 (indicating the highly corrupt countries) to 100 (indicating corruption-free countries), Albania ranks 83rd with 39 points, the TI report showed. Enditem
