NEW DELHI, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government Tuesday ordered a probe into the death of a 45-year-old man in a stampede at a railway station in the western state of Gujarat in the wee hours when Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan stopped there during his train journey to promote a new film.

Indian Railway Minister tweeted that he has ordered the chief of the Railway Protection Force "to investigate the matter and take stern action against any lapse."

Reportedly, two policemen also sustained injuries in the incident.

The Bollywood star has also expressed grief. "It is extremely unfortunate that someone has died... my prayers are with his family. Our team was there all along, tragic that such an incident still took place," the 51-year-old actor told the media after arriving in Delhi from Mumbai.

According to police, the victim, Farheed Khan Pathan, died of a heart attack after being caught in the stampede that broke out when police charged batons to control millions of fans gathered at the railway station in Gujarat's Vadodara city to have a glimpse of the Bollywood star.

Khan, one of the most popular actors in India and popularly called "King Khan", travelled from Mumbai to Delhi on an express train to promote his new film, Raees, which is slated for release this week.
