TOKYO, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed lower on Tuesday with the Nikkei index slipping to a seven-week low, as market sentiment was dampened by the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar and U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to impose border taxes on firms that move American factories overseas.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 103.04 points, or 0.55 percent, from Monday at 18,787.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 8.30 points, or 0.55 percent, lower at 1,506.33.

Decliners were led by bank, machinery and insurance issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,275.7 billion yen (around 20.14 billion U.S. dollars).
