BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Wu Tianjun, a former senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official in central China's Henan Province, has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for severe disciplinary violations.

Last November, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced its investigation into Wu, a former member of the standing committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee.

Wu was found to have breached political discipline and refused to cooperate in the Party's investigation, according to an official statement Monday.

Wu, also former head of the commission for political and legal affairs of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee, was found to have taken advantage of his positions to seek benefits for his relatives' businesses, and asked subordinate agencies to cover his personal expenditure.

Wu was also found to have taken advantage of his positions to seek benefits for others, as well as demanded and accepted a huge amount of property.

He was also dishonest when handling people's petitions, the statement said.

Sanctions against Wu have been approved by the CPC Central Committee.

His illegal gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to judicial departments.
