China introduces regular inspections on marine resources management, environmental protection

Source: Xinhua   2017-01-22 21:17:33

BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The State Oceanic Administration (SOA) will conduct regular inspections of local government management of marine resources and protection of the marine environment.

The SOA, on behalf of the State Council, China's cabinet, will inspect the work of coastal provincial governments and their marine agencies, including marine law enforcement agencies, said a plan approved by the State Council recently and published by the SOA on Sunday.

Inspections will focus on local governments' implementation of the central leadership's major decisions and arrangements regarding marine resources and environment, as well as relevant laws and regulations.

The establishment of a national inspection system will contribute to the cost-effective utilization of marine resources, protection of marine environment and handling of relevant issues, said SOA spokesperson Gao Zhongwen.

It will also facilitate the development of a mechanism that can effectively regulate development activities and promote green development, Gao added.
