VALLETTA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 682,222 tourists visited Malta on cruiseliner vessels in 2016, up two percent year on year from a year ago, official data revealed on Friday.
Of the total, around 626,000 were foreign tourists, an increase of 4.3 percent year on year.
Maltese Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis saiod the cruiseliner industry contributed around 90 million euros (96.3 million U.S. dollars) through direct expenditure into the Maltese economy.
For 2017, Malta's cruiseliner industry expects over 700,000 passenger movements through 330 port calls.
