VALLETTA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- House prices in Malta increased by 5.4 percent in the third quarter of 2016, compared with the previous quarter, according to figures published by Eurostat on Thursday.
This represents the highest increase from among EU countries for which data is available when compared with the second quarter of 2016.
Malta's quarterly house prices rise in Q3 is above the EU average of 1.5 percent.
The biggest quarterly decline in house price in EU was recorded in Romania, at minus 0.7 percent.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, house prices rose by 4.3 percent in Q3 in the EU, with the highest annual increase recorded in Hungary at 11.6 percent. The biggest year-on-year decrease was registered in Cyprus, at minus 3.3 percent.
