HANOI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's China-bordering Mong Cai city in northern Quang Ninh province held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday to start the construction of a temporary pontoon bridge, aiming to boost cross-border trade with China.

The project across Ka Long River, or Beilun River in Chinese, will be the first pontoon bridge that connects Vietnam's Mong Cai and China's Dongxing cities with a total investment of nearly 160 billion Vietnamese dong (7.17 million U.S. dollars), reported the official e-Portal of Quang Ninh.

The two-lane bridge will be 114 meters long and 12 meters wide with designed load of 60 tons.

After being put into operation, the bridge is expected to boost import-export activities and socio-economic development of Mong Cai and Dongxing, said the e-Portal.

Together with the current Bac Luan bridge and Bac Luan II bridge that will be operational soon, the pontoon bridge continues to affirm the close friendship and cooperation between two countries and two localities in promoting economic development in border areas, as well as contributes to a stable and peaceful share border, assessed the Quang Ninh e-Portal.
