TOKYO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares edged down on Wednesday morning on weak U.S. stocks overnight and the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 37.08 points, or 0.20 percent, from Tuesday to 18,776.45.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 5.43 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,503.67.
Decliners were led by rubber product, bank and air transportation issues.
