THE HAGUE, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has instituted proceedings against Russia at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Moscow of interference in Ukrainian affairs, seizing a part of Ukraine's sovereign territory by military force and sponsoring terrorism, the United Nations' highest court announced Tuesday.

In its request submitted in the late Monday afternoon, Ukraine also demanded the court to "declare that the Russian Federation bears international responsibility...for the acts of terrorism committed by its proxies in Ukraine," including the shoot-down of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 and the shelling of civilians in several villages in Ukraine.

Ukraine also demanded the Court to order Russia to cease support to "illegal armed groups that engage in acts of terrorism in Ukraine," including a withdrawal of all weaponry provided to such armed groups from Ukraine.

Following Ukraine's international court lawsuit against it, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Russia will use all the available means of legal defense

"Russia intends to make use of available remedies. A more detailed comment can be given after a thorough examination with the procedural documents," Sputnik quoted the ministry's statement as reporting.

The Hague-based ICJ is the UN's principal judicial organ to settle legal disputes submitted to it by states.
