HANOI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Nearly two-thirds of Vietnamese youngsters said they would rather work for the state due to job stability, according to International Labor Organization (ILO) on Tuesday.

A recent survey conducted by the ILO and General Statistics Office among nearly 5,000 Vietnamese people aged 15-29 showed that high school graduates need 17.8 months to land their first stable and satisfactory job.

Meanwhile, some 26 percent of young workers are overeducated for their jobs and 23.5 percent are underqualified, the state-run news agency VNA quoted the survey as saying.

Though 58.6 percent of youngsters have paid jobs, nearly half of them lack labor contracts. Over one-third of Vietnamese young workers are self-employed or work as unpaid family workers before finding a better job.

About 80 percent are in informal employment, lacking social welfare access and legal protection, reported VNA.
