MANAMA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Bahraini officials on Monday conveyed their strong rejection of the comments made by Iraqi vice president Nouri Al Maliki against the execution of three men.
Foreign Ministry under-secretary for regional and GCC affairs, Ambassador Waheed Mubarak Sayyar summoned Iraqi Ambassador Dr Ahmed Nayef Rasheed Al Dulaimi over the issue.
"Bahrain rejects any form of interference in its independent judiciary, calling for an immediate end of similar remarks which are an unacceptable interference in the affairs of the Kingdom and a violation of the charters of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League," read the Bahrain News Agency statement.
Ambassador Sayyar further highlighted Bahrain's role and GCC contributions and support towards securing stability in Iraq.
Mr Maliki criticized in a statement the execution of the three men on Sunday, who are allegedly linked to the Daih village blast which killed three policemen in 2014.
Ali Al Singace, 21, Sami Mushaima, 42, and Abbas Al Samee'a, 27, faced a firing squad on Sunday for their role in the deadliest attack against security forces in Bahrain since anti-government protests in 2011.
The Iraqi vice president reportedly described the execution, "a heinous crime and an authoritarian act," adding that Iraqis "demand that Bahrain abandon its murder and displacement methods."
Meanwhile, the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) said on Monday that the execution was in accordance with international standards.
"The NIHR stresses that the final verdict by the Court of Cassation was taken after exhausting all judicial solutions with rational decisions in the presence of independent attorneys and in accordance with recognized international standards," stated Bahrain's rights watchdog.
