BOGOR, Indonesia, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed on Sunday to boost mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Abe is on the third stop of his four-nation tour since Thursday, which has already taken him to Australia and the Philippines. He will leave for Vietnam on Monday.
"Certainly the efforts to step up the cooperation must be always under the principal of mutual benefit," President Widodo told a joint press conference after their meeting in West Java province.
Japan's investment in Indonesia nearly tripled to 4.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months last year from the same period in 2015, according to the president.
Japan has invested in major infrastructure projects in Indonesia under the public-private partnership scheme, including Patimban seaport in West Java province, Jakarta-East Java fast-train line and Masela gas block in Maluku province, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said.
Prime Minister Abe confirmed that Japan would like to lift cooperation of the two countries to a higher level.
"I want to deepen cooperation in various sectors and share opinion on challenges to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Japan," he said.
