PHNOM PENH, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen left here Sunday evening for Davos to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland on Jan. 17-20, a senior official said.

"The forum is a good opportunity for heads of state and government to discuss and find ways to ensure sustainable economic growth, strengthen peace and stability, and address global challenges such as climate change and food security," Sry Thamarong, minister attached to the prime minister, told reporters at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

As Cambodia will host the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Phnom Penh in May, the prime minister will seize the opportunity at the WEF to showcase ASEAN and promote Cambodia - the rising star of ASEAN - at a special session, he said.

The WEF is the foremost global gathering of leaders of the highest level from government, business, academia, civil society and media, coming together at the beginning of a year to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

According to the WEF, this year's meeting will gather a record 3,000 government, business and civil society leaders, including over 50 heads of state and government.

Hun Sen's entourage included Transport Minister Sun Chanthol, Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak and Sok Chenda Sophea, secretary general of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, among others.
