BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares fell on Friday, despite improving trade data, which beat market forecasts for December.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged down 0.21 percent to end at 3,112.76 points. The Shenzhen Component index closed 1.21 percent lower at 10,008.30 points.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.56 percent to close at 1,899.94 points.
The country's exports in yuan-denominated terms beat forecasts, rising 0.6 percent year on year in December, while imports grew 10.8 percent on strong demand for commodities from coal to iron ore, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
